Pubs in the Rye Bay Area Where to Eat in Rye

Ypres Castle Inn

The focus here is on great beer – cask and keg – from independent producers. The tap list changes all the time, and will be different every time you visit.

Our favourite breweries are the likes of Floc, Deya, Verdant, Polly’s, Beak and Left Handed Giant. Ciders are from Nightingale and Starvecrow. Lager is from Rothaus in Germany’s Black Forest and Budvar, the national brewery of the Czech Republic. There’s a range of no- and low- alcohol beers in bottles and cans too.

We keep a compact wine list, but change it all the time, sticking to low-intervention and organic wines.

We serve local gin and vodka from Pleasant Lands Distillery, just across the border in Kent.

To accompany these great drinks, there are local cheeses, cured meats from Moons Green Charcuterie, handmade pork pies and superior bar snacks. We don’t operate a kitchen, so there’s no hot food.

We’re known for our big, green garden and cosy interior, warmed by a log fire in the colder months. Although the decor is otherwise traditional, we are proud to display contemporary works by local artists on our walls.

We don’t take bookings: just turn up, get a drink from the bar, and relax. In the same spirit, the pub is not available for private hire/weddings/events.

Only food and drink purchased from us can be consumed in our beer garden: it’s not ok to bring picnics / takeaways from elsewhere. There are lots of public green spaces nearby for that.
